3:15 pm - Headphones Help
So I work in an office. Which means I can't make a lot of noise or else I will disturb my neighbors. I had been listening to stuff with the volume turned very low. Today my wife gave me a pair of her old headphones...I forgot how much more you can hear with the volume turned up to an audible level. :) I have enjoyed everything that I have listened to today so much more because of it.

I know I am about a year late on this one but I am starting to like Fall Out Boy. (the band) Got Under The Cork Tree and I like pretty much all of the songs on it, which is rare for me. Also, Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain are working on new Smashing Pumpkins material! I'm sure they won't get James or D'Arcy to come back but I think it'll still be cool. As much as I do like Billy Corgan, most of TheFutureEmbrace is far from great.

NFL Draft this past weekend. I guess time will tell whether Mario Williams or Reggie Bush was the better pick. I have a feeling the Texans made the wrong choice again. Hopefully the O-Linemen we picked up in the second round will turn into good players. I know Eric Winston was projected by some a going in the first round.

We ended up joining a larger guild in Warcraft. It's been OK, but some may be wishing we didn't make the move. I haven't done much 5-man stuff lately, been too busy in ZG and MC. ZG is pretty much on farm status up to Hakkar, and we usually get Hakkar but wipe 1-2 times first. Starting on AQ20 tomorrow. Also planning on doing some 5-man stuff with the old crew this week. And we're going to start doing a full clear of MC on Sundays. (we had been doing Luci-Shazz on one night and finishing it up another night)

Also I have been doing some PVP to get up to Rank 3 so I get cheaper repairs/reagents and such. It's actually fun. And tomorrow I will be Rank 3 which means I can finally buy my epic mount. I turned in about 500 stacks of runecloth to a little gnome which means that I will be able to buy...a chicken! The pictures of dwarves on them I have seen look a little funny, but it's too late now. I am planning on getting the green one. And yes I know I could get the Paladin epic mount for a lot cheaper but I like to be different. :)

Oh and I got a dress on Saturday! Well, it looks like a dress anyway. Judgement Legplates dropped and I won them. Very excited to have them. :)

8:54 am - W00t it's Friday!
No BWL last night. 15 minutes past our start time, we had 31 people. And only 1 priest, 3 tanks. I think what's happening is, our old-timers think we're going to fail, so they aren't showing up. Which exactly what is going to happen if they don't show up. :( So instead of BWL, we went to AQ20 with the guild we are thinking of merging with. One-shotted the first boss no problem. The second boss is kinda tough. They've never done it successfully but we got further last night than they ever had. There are 8 waves of enemies that come one after another (no time to rest inbetween) and we got to the last wave. There is an NPC that helps you in the fight, and the last wave (General Rajaxx) is supposed to be much easier if that NPC lives...but I lost him in the 4th wave. Next time I think we are going to try assigning more healers to him.

We're having a guild meeting on Saturday to decide for sure whether we are going to merge with the bigger guild. If last night is any indication...it's going to be fun. :)

Molten Core tonight. I'm probably leading again. We have 30 people signed up now so we're going to need to pick up a few more. It always seems like it's a crapshoot as to whether we will get enough high-FR people in time for Ragnaros.

All I really watched last night was The Amazing Race. I have not watched this week's Lost yet. Hopefully will have time tomorrow.

1:23 pm - Astroworld
Is it wrong that I am sad about Astroworld closing? We rarely went there, but it was nice to have the option to go there when we wanted. Now we have to drive to Dallas or San Antonio.

Rest in Peace
Astroway
Bamboo Shoot
Looping Starship
Texas Cyclone :( :( :(
Thunder River
Serpent
Viper :(
XLR8

If you're curious where the other rides went:

610 Limited (train) one engine is at Six Flags over Georgia, the other is at a non-Six Flags park in Cali
Diablo Falls - Six Flags New England
Dungeon Drop - Six Flags St. Louis
Greezed Lightning - Joyland in Lubbock
Gunslinger - Wonderland in Amarillo
Mayan Mindbender - Wonderland in Amarillo
Runaway Rickshaw - Six Flags over Texas (Dallas)
SWAT - Six Flags New England
WARP 2000 - Six Flags Over Texas

All the rest are in storage.

If I ever find myself in Lubbock I am so buying a ticket to Joyland just to ride Greezed Lightning one more time.

10:15 am - Thursday!
Molten Core went pretty well last night. 3.5 hours and we had Shazzrah down. (that's 6 bosses) Then I made them clear the Lava Packs and we ended up getting 2 more Fiery Cores. W00t! We need about 18 more now to clear our current backlog of requests. We'll finish MC up on Friday.

Only have 29 signed up for BWL tonight so we may not go. Someone said it was because of Easter but I dunno.

I watched Teachers (new NBC show) last night as well. So far the second episode was the best one, this one just wasn't that good. I really want to support Sarah Alexander because I loved her in Coupling. (British version) So I hope the show gets better. :)

Did not watch American Idol but I never watch the results show. Not going to say who got booted but America did make the right choice.

Suh-vi-vah tonight but I probably won't get to watch it until the weekend. I'll tag this since it's a spoiler for some of the earlier episodes of this season.

9:03 am - TV and stuff
Got to watch this week's "How I Met Your Mother" last night. Le-Gen-Da-Ry. :)

Also watched American Idol. Some of them actually did pretty well.

Bucky was OK. I like the song, just not sure I like his voice.

Ace is just too "boy band".

Kellie was good. I am starting to believe the rumors that the "dumb blonde" think is an act though.

Chris was very good. But as always, Simon is right, he picked a bad song no one's ever heard of.

Katharine was OK. There were a few "cringe" moments for me and she screamed about 1/4 of the song.

Elliott was awesome, as usual. I think he's go farther if he wasn't so funny looking. :)

Taylor was OK. He has been one of my favorites but his Vegas experience is showing.

Paris was great. I did not expect her to do that well, but she really surprised me.

Hoping the bottom 3 will be Bucky, Ace, and Taylor, with Bucky or Ace getting the boot.

Onyxia last night. We've been killing her consistently since July of last year, but last night for the first time I can remember she gave us a lot of trouble. I think it took us 4 tries. We have a few married/engaged couples that play together with us. One of these couples is a mage/Dwarf Priest. But last night the Dwarf Priest half of the couple was at work. So after the second wipe, she (mage) logged on to her fiancee/boyfriend's account so we could use Fear Ward. Still took us another attempt after that but we finally got it. We kept losing people to Deep Breath and the whelps kept eating us alive too. And then whenever she feared she's go beat on the casters until our tank could get her back under control. And then she drops something that our friend the mage needed, but she couldn't get because she was logged in as her fiancee/boyfriend.

Molten Core tonight. If I'm leading, I'm going to do my best to push the raid along so we can be done in 3ish hours instead of 4. Going to try some Priest DPS on the trash mobs.

4:34 pm - well duh...

You fit in with:
Nerd

You fit into the nerd stereotype! Oh noes! While you float in the middle of the conformity continuum, you're not quite the most popular duck in the pond. That is, you may be a little socially rejected on account of your nerdiness. But don't let that get you down - you can always play with your gadget(s).

2:26 pm - finally
So like forever ago my copy of Adore got broken. It got warped or something from being in a hot car for too long. This was like the first CD I got when I moved to Houston. Finally remembered to get a new copy this weekend. Now I just need some headphones so I can listen to it without annoying all the people around me.

And just for fun, here are all the CDs I have in my office. (got a lot more at home but these are either ones I've bought recently or had a reason to bring up here)

NIN - with teeth
Garden State Soundtrack
The Best of The Corrs
Outkast - Speakerboxx/The Love Below
Sarah McLachlan - Afterglow
Dido - Life for Rent (love this one)
Wilson Phillips - California
No Doubt - The Singles
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxrot (am I the only one who doesn't "get" this CD?)
The Corrs - Unplugged
Garbage - Bleed Like Me
Billy Corgan - TheFutureEmbrace (not great, IMO)
Ella Enchanted Soundtrack (what a great movie!!)
Warrant - Cherry Pie (no I am not kidding I do own this)
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie (both CDs)
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
James Iha - Let it Come Down (not great either)
Nirvana - Nevermind
Smashing Pumpkins - Pisces Iscariot

10:25 am - Fine, I'll update :)
So I guess it's been a couple of years. I've been busy. :) Well okay not really that busy, just lazy.

Same job as I had two years ago. We have a new CEO though, and the stock price has really gone up. Didn't stop the layoffs though, those continue. Did you know that people in Costa Rica can do my job for 30% of my salary? Well, that's what my manager told me anyway. At least the job market is better now so that if I do get laid off it shouldn't be too hard to find a new job.

As for games, like everyone else I have been playing World of Warcraft. I have a nice little guild on Alleria, that's part of a guild alliance for 40-man raids. We took down Ragnaros in January, and have since lost a few dozen people so getting Razorgore down is proving tougher and tougher. (3 of the guilds left the alliance) We actually haven't attempted Razorgore in about 5 weeks. The last time we did we were able to get him to phase 2 about 3 times in a row but always fell apart on the transition. This Thursday we're going to give it another shot. If we can just get enough well-geared competent people to show up we could totally do it. But a lot of those people are so burned out on the alliance aspect of it I think they actually hope we are going to fail, and thus aren't signing up.

Quite a few of us have already completed our Tier 1 sets, so getting into BWL is very important, else there's nothing left for us to do really. The last thing I really want is the Judgement Legplates.

Haven't really read much lately. I started Crossroads of Twilight, but never finished it. Haven't even bothered to buy Knife of Dreams.

I played Halo 2 for a while when it came out. Got up to about rank 16 on a couple of different playlists but then I just stopped playing.

Still watch about 15 hours of TV a week though. Scrubs is great...another show that just started this year that's really good is How I Met Your Mother. Still watching Lost too.

Also been playing Kingdom Hearts 2. Man those Japanese think up some weird stories. :)

Missed AggieCon again. I did go to my 10-year high school reunion. I am officially old. Come to find out about half of my group of friends from high school lives in Houston. But apparently they are all doctors and such.

Anyway...not sure what possessed me to update...will try to do it again soon, if nothing else with progress on Razorgore. :)

current mood: bored

Okay I know I am really behind, because I forgot how to read. But I recently remembered how to read, and I just finished Winter's Heart, but I have a question. Be aware there is a spoiler ahead if you haven't finished Winter's Heart.

Crack addiction...averted. I actually quit playing Galaxies about 3 weeks ago. I don't think MMORPG's are for me. The main problem I had with the game was that the rules kept changing. Every month they had a big patch and everything changed. That doesn't happen with non-MMO games. The Landstalker doesn't suddenly become the best car in Grand Theft Auto halfway through the game.

Not a lot has really changed since my last update. Work is about the same, everyone is still afraid of getting laid off. It's been that way for about 3 years now...I think it's horrible for productivity, personally. If we had just, say, a year of no layoffs I think more people would be willing to take risks in their jobs and do a few things differently.

Watched a couple of movies we TiVoed from HBO yesterday. First "Identity". Interesting premise, I didn't figure out what was going on until a couple of minutes before they spelled it out for the audience. And I didn't fully expect the ending. Then we watched "Dreamcatcher". I think I am glad Stephen King isn't writing books anymore - he ran out of ideas a long time ago. This story borrows several elements from his other works, I thought. Worth watching, but not a great movie.

We have been playing through Diablo II again for the past week. We started new characters and just made it to level 30 about halfway through Act V. Diablo was tough - we died about 10 times between us fighting him. And he hardly dropped anything to make it worth it. We were down to about 30,000 gold each. But a couple of hours of Act V and we are back up at the max gold. (now 200,000 after Level 30) Early on I got a Unique shield (I am a Paladin) that adds 10 to both Vitality and Energy. I am just now getting to the point where I am seeing shields with the same defense as that one, but because of the extra stats mine is going to be very hard to give up.

Still playing SOCOM every Wednesday night. SOCOM II actually, now. If anyone out there has an online PS2 and a copy of SOCOM II feel free to join us. Game info is posted on Wednesdays at http:///www.syphix.com/forum I played the Abandoned map a couple of times in the past week...man did they ruin that map or what. It's the exact same map from SOCOM I but everything is dark. It's hard to play effectively with night vision on.

I missed AggieCon again this year. In fact I have only been once since I graduated. Maybe I will make it next year...it's not like it's a very far trip.

I went through a period of 2-3 years where I didn't like any new music I heard. (maybe it wasn't me but the people putting out the music) But I have started to like some new music recently. Right now I am alternating between Dido and Outkast. I also really like Norah Jones and Shakira.

I'm going to try to update my Friends list later today...lots of additions to make.

SOCOM in an hour. Gotta watch American Idol first. Yes I know, I have TiVo, and I could watch it anytime I want. But American Idol is one of those things I have to watch close to live, or else I'll find out about what happens one way or another. I'll read about it on the web or hear about it on the radio. So I think what I'll do is start watching at 7:30 (it's an hour tonight) FFW through commercials and watch the whole thing in 30 minutes. Then SOCOM. I haven't been improving as much as I improved between the first few times I played. Or maybe the people I am playing with are just improving at the same level. I get MVP about 1/4 of the games we play, which I guess is pretty good. I used to never get MVP.

I printed out all of the SOCOM maps I could find. My printer says it is at 0% ink but somehow it still printed 5 full-color maps.

Good day at work today...got everything I needed to get done done, and still got to go home a little early. Tomorrow is Hell Day #1 though so I may not get out of there until 6PM or so. We'll see.

Anyone got any tips on keeping a dryer hose on the vent opening? Mine keeps coming off. I was using a container of cat litter wedged up against it to hold it together, but then I ran out of cat litter and had to use it in the litterbox. Right now I have some tape holding it on, but I doubt that will hold for long.

Been playing too much Zelda this weekend. I'm about to go into the Earth Temple...I think I'm about halfway done with the game.

And I am much closer to finishing Starcraft. Got 25 of 30 missions done.

2-year anniversary yesterday. We went to Dave and Buster's and played Pod Racer and Skee Ball for like an hour. Maggie won the first two games of Pod Racer but somehow I managed to fly by her on the last lap of the last race we played.

Doing some stuff at work for someone who is on vacation, in addition to all my regular work. It's actually only 1 day a week, but it's a lot of work on that one day.

X-Men this weekend. Looks to be pretty cool.

Still haven't gotten Final Fantasy Origins. I will check Best Buy this weekend, and if they don't have it I will order it on Amazon. I don't want to miss out on it like I did with Anthology and Chronicles.

Got the trees. I lied about the pictures. I have some, I am just too lazy to figure out how to post them. Maybe tomorrow.

I want to get a system board, processor, and RAM for my computer, but Maggie is going to the dentist on Thursday, which means we can't really afford computer parts if we want to pay off the car in October. (dentist = $$$)

Watched most of the NFL Draft this weekend. Texans got a couple of good players, and for some reason picked two QBs. They already had 3...now they have 5. That's a lot of QBs. I guess we could always trade one. But no one is going to trade for them unless they play, and none of them are going to play unless Carr gets hurt. I think the team has more pressing needs.

I am going to finish Starcraft. The single player missions. It's not going to be easy, but I'm gonna do it. So far I have finished 12 of 30 missions. Having a little trouble with the third Zerg mission though. I ran out of money. Those damn siege tanks basically wiped out everything I had, repeatedly. I just don't know how to play zerg, other than build a lot of something and swarm.

We're getting trees planted for us on Tuesday. I thought I might be able to do it myself, but then I realized that I am lazy, and that I have money. So if I can pay someone $50 to do what would have taken me a few hours and caused me much pain and blisters, I think it's a good idea. We actually got about half a hole dug - about 3 feet in diamieter, and 1 foot deep. And it took us 20 minutes. We're getting an elm, a red oak, a Cleveland pear, and a crape myrtle. Oh, and a red-tip photina. I'll post pictures when I get home on Tuesday. I think they're gonna do it while we're gone. That's what they did last time with the live oak in our front yard. (same company)

Maggie played Zelda today while I was playing Starcraft. She got a lot farther than I did.

I also started playing Pokemon Blue on Friday as well. Finally beat Misty. I ended up catching a Bellsprout, levelling it up to like level 20, and then using Vine Whip on all her water Pokemon. Worked pretty well.

Well it looks like our old buddy Saddam Hussein may be dead. All the news channels are reporting that we had a tip he was in some house, so they sent a B-1 over with 4 5,000 pound bunker-busters and totally destroyed the house. Just left a bigass crater. That's cool...I hope they got him.

Started playing Starcraft again over the weekend. 5 years after release this game is still fun. I still remember it was like 2 months before I granulated and I went into Hastings in College Station looking for Blade Runner, but I saw Starcraft there, and got that instead. We basically didn't stop playing until I granulated, and once I moved to Houston I played on B.net for at least a year. Definitely got my $50 worth out of this game.

Can't get into Zelda. Same thing happened to me with Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past. The last Zelda game I finished was the original Legend of Zelda. Maybe if people stop inviting me to play SOCOM...

Did yard work this weekend. Front yard looks good, back yard looks good...pulled up the border around the former vegetable garden. Too much work when I can just buy vegetables at Kroger. Still gonna plant some trees, but first I have to dig holes to put them in. That'll be fun.

Layoffs again at work. I survived again, yay me. One more major round coming that I know about. We're going through a pretty big system switch in May so I've been doing a lot of prep work for that. A lot of people are gonna be hella pissed because their shit that works today ain't gonna work soon...and they don't know it yet.

So can someone "in the know" tell me what's going on with Cepheid and the MSC? Something about not being an MSC Committee anymore? What's up with that? Do I need to drive down and have a talk with my old buddy Jim? (just kidding that guy hated me, if he's still around) Is this a financial thing?

My subscription to PC Gamer expires next month...I almost don't care. I still read it, but I never play the demos, or buy any new games, since my computer is too old to play anything. That's not completely true, but I'm at the point now where it barely meets the "Minimum System Requirements" of most games. Good thing the 50 games I already have still work. I think console games are a much more cost-effective form of entertainment. You only have to spend a couple hundred bucks every few years to keep up with the latest in game consoles...you can go broke trying to keep a gaming PC current.

Still got my free subscription to Electronic Gaming Monthly. It's not a bad magazine, but I'm not sure I'd pay for it.

Anyway, so hopefully we'll know soon about Saddam. He sux0red. I think I will go watch Fox News and do a logic problem...maybe finish the one I started last night.

Just watched the last episode of Real World Las Vegas and deleted my season pass. Thank God, it's finally over. Is it just me or was this the crappiest Real World ever? It seemed like every shows was about Irulan trying to decide between Alton and Gabe. And there were like 30 episodes. That's just nuts.

Also deleted my Futurama season pass, for Cartoon Network. Finally saw all of the first 4 seasons on Cartoon Network...I'd seen them before on Fox, or at least most of them. Of course it's now 10:00, and what do I hear from the other room...Futurama is on. I'll bet TiVo is recording it as a Suggestion.

Hah. Admiral Crunch...Archduke Chocula. Maybe I should watch Futurama again. Nah...

One of these days I need to take a vacation day. Of course I'm supposed to go to San Antonio one of these days, so maybe I should save my vacation days until then.

I got in my car this morning, and on the radio, they were talking about the tolls on the Sam Houston Tollway...they were going up. They said that the toll road authority was going to begin scanning cars, and charging a toll PER OCCUPANT. They even had someone who was either from the toll road authority or pretended to be discuss it. I was skeptical, but I believed it. I mean I guess it could happen. So people started calling in. The first lady they got on the phone was absolutely livid. She was screaming, hard to understand, and she was obviously very upset. The next person said she was OK with the increase, because "the money for the toll road expansion has to come from somewhere". They went through a few more callers, everyone seemed pretty upset about it, and then went to commercial.

I was sitting there thinking about it during the commercial, and I realized what day it was. Man, that's a good April Fool's joke.

Soooo full. Went to Black-Eyed Pea tonight. Probably ate way too much...maybe 40 points, which would put me over 50 for the day. I just can't believe I used to eat like that all the time.

I noticed something on the way home. There are some things that are everywhere around me, but I never notice them. Telephone/power poles and lines. If you take the time to look at them, they're pretty damn ugly. But I rarely notice them - I just look right past them. Anyway, just thought that was interesting.

Timothy is sitting on my lap. He's one of my 3 favorite cats. Whenever I sit at the computer, he wants to sit there and make it hard for me to type. Same when I am playing video games.

We're looking at planting some trees in our backyard. Anyone got any suggestions on what kinds of trees to plant?
